New York-based singer/songwriter Margaret Glaspy returns with her fourth album, "I Am Both" — a record built on embracing complexity rather than fitting into easy categories. Stepping away from social media during the writing process, Glaspy found a renewed creative clarity, penning lyrics longhand before refining them on a typewriter. The result is a set of eleven songs that move between fictional storytelling, raw personal reflection, and a compassionate eye on the wider world.
Recorded live over three days at New York's Reservoir Studios, the album features drummer Jay Bellerose (Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss), keyboardist Patrick Warren (Tracy Chapman, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen), and bassist Ross Gallagher (Paula Cole, Grails), and was produced by three-time Grammy winner Joe Henry, known for his work with Aimee Mann and Joan Baez. Following acclaimed releases including her 2016 debut "Emotions and Math" and 2023's "Echo the Diamond," "I Am Both" cements Glaspy's place as one of today's most compelling songwriters.
